Your body has the innate intelligence to rebalance itself, but sometimes it gets stuck and needs support. Your symptoms explain to you what your body is trying to do, but unfortunately the treatment tools most people are familiar with have a blocking mechanism to stop the symptom, versus a supporting your body mechanism which allows your symptoms to resolve naturally
When your body is fighting a pathogen, its goal is to resolve it by attacking and expelling it. It is not uncommon to experience pain from the inflammation created during this process.
When you use a blocking treatment to reduce your inflammation during the fight, you can disable your body’s natural process, forcing it to change its goal from resolution, to containment and storage.
When your body does not resolve a pathogen, it places it into storage, burdening your body by wasting energy and resources to manage it.
You might have noticed that when you are feeling run down, chronic symptoms manifest. These are often due to your trapped pathogens becoming free and active, causing damage, because your body was too weak to contain them. This is often the cause of chronic pain and illness.
Instead of utilizing a treatment that blocks what your body is trying to accomplish, you can supports it. Replace your blocking fever reducer with a treatment that also reduces your discomfort while simultaneously supporting your body in the resolution of the pathogen.
These are my favorite go-to’s when anyone in my household is starting to get sick:
| Elderberry with oregano oil | Common cold symptoms without a sore throat |
| Yin Qiao San | Common cold symptoms with a sore throat |
| Oscillicococcium | Initial onset flu-like symptoms |
| Homeopathic Belladonna | When a fever gets high suddenly |
Pain is another symptom that often gets treated with blocking tools, but there are many other tools that you could use based on your presentation and associated factor:
| PAIN TYPE | ASSOCIATIVE FACTOR |
| Achy (joints/muscles) | Viral |
| Shooting (ortho-neuro) | Neurotoxin; nerve compression |
| Squeezing, cramping (muscles) | Magnesium deficiency; Hypoxia |
| Stiffness (joint, connective tissue) | Infection or toxin overload; gut imbalance |
| Stinging, prickling, electric shocks | Neurotoxin |
| Throbbing | Circulatory |
| Numbness, tingling | Neurotoxin or circulatory |
| Shaking/trembling | Neurotoxin |
Many of these pain types needs to be diagnosed and treated by a practitioner, but no matter what type of pain you are experiencing, a common treatment principle is to move your body’s qi and blood to clear the stagnation. This is a safe protocol to try for your pain.
Your Pattern of Disharmony is a Chinese medical diagnostic term which describes the presentation of your symptom(s).
In the above we would say that you have pain with qi and blood stagnation. The treatment strategy would be to move qi and blood.
Heat or cold is often present. Heat would be cooled, and cold would be warmed.
At any point in your healing journey you could incorporate a personalized treatment to target your symptoms by balancing your Pattern of Disharmony.
