Terrain medicine is a wholistic perspective that believes that the primary determinant of your healing capacity lies in the health of your internal terrain. Even the inventor of Germ Theory, Louis Pasteur, stated on his deathbed that:
The germ is nothing, the terrain is everything.
A weakened, imbalanced, or toxic internal environment gives germs the foothold they need to thrive — restore your terrain to health, and your body becomes far less hospitable to them.
The Wholistic Health Path is a healing journey designed to harmonize systems which will enable your innate healing capacity to generate health.
Keeping with the terrain theory language. your Constitution is your internal terrain, your foundation, the health of your soil. Disease is an opportunistic weed, and your pattern of disharmony is how that weed is growing.
The strength of your Constitution strongly influences your Healing Capacity. You can gain some insight into how strong your Constitution is by:
Your Vitality is measured by how much energy you have minus how much stagnation is present. As your Constitution is the quality of your soil, your Vitality would be the sunlight.
You cannot make your Constitution stronger, but you can increase your Vitality by reducing your stagnation and increasing your Postnatal Jing.
The refined substance that is the material basis of your life is called your Essence, or Jing. In our terrain analogy, it would be the seed.
| Prenatal Jing | What is the quality of the seed itself? When you were created you acquired your Prenatal Jing from your parents. It is the bridge to your past lineage and your connection to totality (The Dao). It also determined your Constitutional strength and vitality. It is a resource that cannot be added to, but unfortunately can be subtracted from. Internal exercises such as Qi Gong and Tai Chi help conserve you Prenatal Jing, while your Postnatal Jing is created to be used for daily functions. |
| Postnatal Jing | This would be how deeply and richly that seed is able to take root. The resources you acquire from the air you breath and food you eat is called your Postnatal Jing. |
In addition to optimizing your Vitality by reducing your Stagnation and increasing the quality of your air, water, and food, you can also intentionally Retrain Your Mind.
